The\u00a0scientific method<\/a>\u00a0requires observations of\u00a0natural phenomena<\/a>\u00a0to formulate and test\u00a0hypotheses<\/a>.\u00a0<\/sup>It consists of the following steps:[<\/a><\/sup><\/sup><\/p>\n

  1. Ask a\u00a0question<\/a>\u00a0about a natural\u00a0phenomenon<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Make observations of the phenomenon<\/li>\n
  3. Form a\u00a0hypothesis<\/a>\u00a0to explain the phenomenon<\/li>\n
  4. Predict<\/a>\u00a0logical, observable\u00a0consequences<\/a>\u00a0of the hypothesis that have not yet been investigated<\/li>\n
  5. Test the hypothesis’ predictions by an\u00a0experiment<\/a>,\u00a0observational study<\/a>,\u00a0field study<\/a>, or\u00a0simulation<\/a><\/li>\n
  6. Draw a\u00a0conclusion<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0data<\/a>\u00a0gathered in the experiment, or revise the hypothesis or form a new one and\u00a0repeat<\/a>\u00a0the process<\/li>\n
  7. Write a\u00a0descriptive method<\/a>\u00a0of observation and the\u00a0results<\/a>\u00a0or conclusions reached<\/li>\n
  8. Have peers with experience researching the same phenomenon\u00a0evaluate<\/a>\u00a0the results<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
