There are two common historical and intellectual denotations to Obscurantism<\/i>: (1) deliberately restricting knowledge\u2014opposition to the spread of knowledge<\/a>, a policy of withholding knowledge from the public<\/a>; and, (2) deliberate obscurity\u2014an abstruse style<\/a> (as in literature<\/a> and art<\/a>) characterized by deliberate vagueness.[1]<\/a><\/sup>[2]<\/a><\/sup> The name comes from French<\/a>: obscurantisme<\/i><\/span>, from the Latin obscurans<\/i>, “darkening”.<\/p>\n
