Wartime Russian city from the air

by Jonathan on June 17, 2009

I am intrigued by these buildings pictured, part of a series of photos taken by Luftwaffe pilots or a Russian city during WW2. Its a Modernist masterpiece, but where?

[Update: Thanks to Milansky commenting below, I now know. The city is Kharkiv in Ukraine and the building is the Gosprom building. I had never heard of it before yesterday and thanks to Milansky I now have a new favourite building].

We saw a great exhibit on Modernism at the V&A in London in 2006. Now in New York http://www.corcoran.org/modernism/index.htm I wonder what type of art our new adventures in statism will produce?
