Choose the best graphics format for the job

"Ever wonder how the formats of graphics on the Web differ from those in documents, presentations, or spreadsheets? You're not alone. With names like TIFF, GIF, BMP, and PNG flying around, it can be hard to know which format to use, and which program to use it with. Knowing what formats are out there and learning their relative advantages can help you create lively documents, presentations, and Web pages."

Bookmarklets - free tools for power surfing

Bookmarklets are simple tools that extend the surf and search capabilities of Netscape and Explorer web browsers.

Bookmarklets are free.

Bookmarklets allow you to:

Modify the way you see someone else's webpage.
Extract data from a webpage.
Search more quickly, and in ways not possible with a search engine.
Navigate in new ways.

...and more. Over 150 bookmarklets are available.
PHPAccess allows you to easily safe your Website against unallowed access.

It offers an intuitive and easy-to-use user-interface that displays current information and possible actions on one page.
You don't have to know anything about the complex unix-htaccess-system nor do you

have to create the .htaccess- / .htpasswd-files - PHPAccess does this job for you. You even don't have to know the absolute path to your website - PHP finds this
information automatically.

With PHPAccess you can add, modify and delete the users that have access to your data. All you have to do is upload the PHPAccess-file, give it the correct file-permissions (via ftp-proggie) and start PHPAccess in your web-browser.

"Boardreader: It's another search engine to use to try and get at opinions like Google Groups and Epinions. BoardReader covers Web-based bulletin boards and discussion forums. It is an alternative to MessageKing, another search engine for forum postings which I have always found much more difficult to use. BoardReader finds many more postings than MessageKing and it also includes a cached copy, the date, and the number of replies. I'll add it to my Opinion Searching page once I find the time to update that one." - Search Engine Showdown

Perl for Web Site Management by John Callender

"Checking links, batch editing HTML files, tracking users, and writing CGI scripts--these are the often tedious daily tasks that can be done much more easily with Perl, the scripting language that runs on almost all computing platforms. If you're more interested in streamlining your web activities than in learning a new programming language, Perl for Web Site Management is for you: it's not so much about learning Perl as it is about using Perl to do common web chores more efficiently.

The secret is that, although becoming a Perl expert may be hard, most Perl scripts are relatively simple. Using Perl and other open source tools, you'll learn how to: Incorporate a simple search engine Write a simple CGI gateway Convert multiple text files into HTML Monitor log files Track users as they navigate your site

Even if you don't have any programming background, this book will get you quickly past Perl's seemingly forbidding barrier of chops and chomps, execs and elsifs. You'll be able to put an end to using clunky tools, editing files tediously by hand, or relying on programmers and system administrators to do "the hard stuff" for you. Sure, you might learn a little bit about programming as well, and perhaps something about the role of open source tools on the Web. But the purpose of Perl for Web Site Management isn't to educate you--it's to empower you. Whether you're a developer, a designer, or simply a dabbler on the Web, this book is the plain-English, hands-on introduction to Perl you've been waiting for."

This change also permits system administrators to configure policies that require users to read all non-digitally-signed e-mail or nonencrypted e-mail messages in plain text only.

Digitally signed e-mail or encrypted e-mail messages are not affected by this update and cannot be modified by a system policy. Digitally signed e-mail or encrypted e-mail messages are read in their original formats.
