“Staights envy gays” according to Evening Standard columnist Virginia Blackburn
Well “breeders” you heard it here first. Gays are delirious with childless joy and
contentment. More money, no kids to bother them… life is perfect!
But this pro-gay triumphantalism is flatly contradicted by this interesting
and well written piece:
Why are gay men killing themselves?
Could it be that both articles are peddling clichÈs? Both are personal
perspectives deserving the classic “Sociologist sees evidence of trend in
own behaviour” tag?
Is there really any point in trying to compare gays and straights in this
way? Can one ever really show that one group is happier than another?
If childlessness is such a blessing why are lesbians and gays going to
extraordinary lengths to adopt, employ surrogates or in future - even grow
ankle biters in nutrient full vats-wombs “Brave New World” style?
And finally, if gays are to be envied so much - why on earth is there so
much protective legislation designed to assist and empower them, whilst the
people who perpetuate humanity (i.e. breeders) are both mocked and
struggling to cope (as this first article gloatingly points out)?
