Here we go again. The US military is a superb fighting organisation. It is fighting a just cause. US soldiers are moral giants compared to moral pygmies that are the Taliban - yet her they go again demonstrating their unmatchable skill for self-defeating brilliance.
The BBC is reporting that once again US soldiers have been filmed breaking Western standards of decent war conduct, this time by burning two Taliban corpses and taunting the Taliban as ladyboy cowards.
I love the idea of taunting the Taliban - the sort of people who cut the heads off prisoners - and PsyOps can be a useful tool, but this plays into the hands of those who charge that the US and its foes are moral equals.
Fallujah was flattened in vengeance for the desecration of US dead. How do they imagine this sort of behaviour will not cause outrage? Even in purely operational / military terms this act has no value.
It is *unnecessary
We need to forget the fact that our enemies are savages who do not uphold our standards. We need to forget that the Muslim world is so deeply hypocritical when it acquiesce at beheading and mass murder yet rages in the streets at “disrespect”.
The reason we keep these standards are because they are what define us. They make us great. The measure is not our barbarian foe, but ourselves.
